The Word of God is Essential for the Children of God
The Bible is God’s Testimony
1 John 5:9 - If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.
Did God the creator, create everything and then not give any other instructions for the people of the world to believe, desire and obey? NO! The Bible (66 books, 39 Old Testament, and 27 New Testament books) is God’s Testimony of everything He wants us to know about Him and about ourselves. The Word of God begotten of the Father, is God the Son, and breathed out through God the Holy Spirit, testifying of the Triune God, and Testifying that Jesus Christ is the God-Man who provides redemption for people of every nation, tribe, and tongue. The Word of God is without error in the original texts of Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. It has hundreds of prophecies that has come true, and many more will come true testifying to God’s omniscience and omnipotence. Jesus testifies that every word in the Bible will come true - Matthew 5:18 - For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.
God says it is necessary for His children to live on every Word in the Bible
Matthew 4:4 - But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.”
How are we to obey God, if we do not know what He has commanded in His Holy Scriptures?
God defines righteousness (conformance to His own character) and God defines sin (any belief, motive, desire, thought, speech, or action that does not conform to His perfect Holy Character). So how are we to walk in God’s righteous ways if we do not know the Bible? 2 Timothy 3:16-17 teaches us “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
The Word of God is necessary for Salvation
It is the Holy Scriptures that teaches a person that their heart is desperately wicked (Jeremiah 17:9), all have fallen short of the Glory of God (Romans 3:23), and there is no one righteous, no, not one (Romans 3:10). This is God’s testimony about man, a pure, correct, and true view of man’s nature. Also God’s Word commands that everyone repent and believe with your heart (in your heart you know you are a sinner and that Jesus is the only Savior) that Jesus is God, Jesus is the only begotten Son of God, He lived a perfect life, and He voluntarily died on the cross to pay the justice due for all the sins of the people that will believe in Him, and He rose on the 3rd day according to the prophecy of scripture! Romans 10:17 says your faith came by the hearing of the Word of God- “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.
Ephesians 2:8-9 - God testifies that “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.
The Word of God is necessary for Sanctification (For your heart to become like Jesus’ heart)
Jesus prays to the Father in John 17:17 - “Sanctify them by your truth. Your Word is truth.
The Holy Spirit through the Apostle Peter commands us in 1 Peter 2:1-2 “Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, as newborn babes desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby.
The Bible is necessary to know the sin and vices in our heart and also to know the character of Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit will convict us of our sin, we are to repent, and allow God to change our hearts, not just our behavior. God wants our beliefs, desires, motives, and will to be changed in our heart, so that we really and truly, sincerely believe that we are to love God with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and we are to love our neighbors as ourselves. He gives us further instructions that we are to sacrificially love our brothers and sisters in Christ and we are to even love our enemies, because God loves His enemies perfectly. Where are you in your spiritual maturity of becoming more like Jesus Christ? Have you not made the progress that you think you should have made? Why not? Examine yourself. Do you desire what God desires? Do you crave the Word of God like God wants you to crave His Word?
The Word of God is necessary to Abide in and to Serve God
Jesus teaches us in John 15 that we can no NOTHING good without abiding in Him. John 15:5 - “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. The Christian life is a life totally dependent on the grace of God, to be saved, to sanctify us, to abide with Him, and to serve and worship Him. The Christian life seeks to Glorify God the Father and God the Son through being a living sacrifice as God transforms us into His image by the renewing of our minds (which now controls our hearts and we live not in the flesh, but we are led by the Holy Spirit of God). Romans 12:1-2- I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Our life is now His. He saved us and now we live for Him, being guided by God everyday and in every circumstance living out His word, so that we live in righteousness and not live in sin. God tells us very plainly that His Holy Word is now the perfect guide in our life depending on the Holy Spirit to illumine and teach His Word to us. Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.
The Word of God is necessary to Worship God
We worship God privately, we worship God corporately, and we worship God with our entire life, but in all three areas of our life, the Bible is necessary to worship God in a manner that is acceptable and pleasing to Him.
Psalm 119 SHIN
161 Princes persecute me without a cause,
But my heart stands in awe of Your word.
162 I rejoice at Your word
As one who finds great treasure.
163 I hate and abhor lying,
But I love Your law.
164 Seven times a day I praise You,
Because of Your righteous judgments.
165 Great peace have those who love Your law,
And nothing causes them to stumble.
166 Lord, I hope for Your salvation,
And I do Your commandments.
167 My soul keeps Your testimonies,
And I love them exceedingly.
168 I keep Your precepts and Your testimonies,
For all my ways are before You.
Look at the attitude of the Psalmist, which should be our attitude toward God and His Word!
7 times a day I praise you because of your righteous judgments…I love them exceedingly!
May God’s grace be upon all of His children so that we grow to LOVE His Word as this Psalmist loves His Word. God is worthy for our love to be this great for Him and every word that proceeds from His mouth.
Finally, Jesus teaching on worship in John 4:23-24 - But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
Jesus defines the Word of God as truth in John 17, so the Word of God is necessary to worship God properly, so that we can describe, praise, honor and give Him glory and Thanksgiving for ALL of His attributes and ALL of His works of redemption, mercy, grace, peace, and joy toward us His Children.
I hope and pray that God will richly bless you with His Grace to love His Word, know it, believe it, live it, and teach His Word to others!
In Christ’s Love for you,
